How to Make Simple Syrup
Would you like your lemonade or iced tea sweetened? Do not reach for the sugar bowl. You get a better result, no grains of sand in the bottom of the glass when mixing a batch of simple syrup instead. Simply, mix 1 cup water with 1 cup sugar in a small saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar is completely dissolved, 3 to 5 minutes. Cool and add the beverage, as required. (Use 1 ½ tsp simple syrup for each teaspoon of sugar normally used.) Keep the syrup in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
